If everyone copied our western lifestyle, we would need two and a half planets in order to obtain our supplies. The building industry contributes considerably to the consumption of raw materials and energy which is why we have a particular responsibility in this area.

We recognised the signs early on and are encouraging the cycle of matter. Everything goes hand in hand for Rhomberg from the excavation of raw materials from our own quarry to its use and recycling.

We currently obtain up to 50 percent of our building materials from recycled secondary raw materials. Thanks to new mobility concepts, we are able to reduce our traffic volume and transport large amounts of good by rail. New energy-efficient solutions reduce costs and contribute actively to the protection of the environment.

Did you know that:

• 75 percent of our production is sent over short transport distances to customers in the lower Rhine Valley mainly in Dornbirn and Hohenems.
• Between 20 and 40 percent of our prepared materials are obtained from recyclable materials supplied from the surrounding area
• An average of 125,000 tonnes of material per year are transported via the connecting line.
• The total yield from the large building sites at the Feldkirch and Dornbirn railway stations and the Arlberg tunnel is transported by rail to the quarry, the material is recycled and launched back onto the market.
• Our average transport distance to customers amounts to nine kilometres and would amount to 49 km WITHOUT the quarry.
• This enables us, with an annual production of 550,000 tonnes, to avoid 2.4 million kilometres travelled by truck, 370,000 litres of diesel consumed per year and the production of 5.6 tonnes of particulate matter. This also helps to reduce the amount of traffic on our roads.
• Our mobility action has reduced travel distances by 72,000 kilometres this autumn. This corresponds 1.8 times around the world.
• A sledging slope has been created using the excavation material obtained.
