Largest contract for rail improvement to ARGE Rhomberg/Alpine

Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH / Alpine Bau GmbH have signed the largest contract in the history of Austria for rail improvement - a grand volume of over 260 Million Euros.
Rhomberg Bahntechnik GmbH will take on the technical management, whereas Alpine Bau GmbH will manage the commercial side of the project. With such a high volume and forecasting showing 4 years as the estimated project length, only candidates with vast technical, specialized and logistical knowledge were taken into account.

The project covers a 41 km section (Kundl/Radfeld-Baumkirchen), which is the first part of the northern feed to the Brenner-Basistunnel track. It is also part of the railway axle from Munich to Verona which will be used for high-speed freight transport. The maximum operating speed for this section will be 250km/h. Characteristic for this stretch is the, in total, 34 km long dual track tunnel.

The technical rail equipment includes:

  • setting up the edge way and the tunnel level
  • construction of track system
  • installation of ventilation and electrics
  • construction of technical rooms and buildings
  • health and safety installations
  • installation of flood control measures
  • sound proof walls
  • creation, operation and removal of e.g. electricity for building site, communication, ventilation, logistics, etc.
  • complete coordination of construction site
